If you want to be able to carve a joint of meat or the turkey right at the dining table you better be either highly skilled with a carving knife or have a handy electric cordless knife on hand. Any electric knife cuts through meat with ease as its double blades move smoothly back and forwards and slice through anything like butter (well almost anything you are likely to need to carve). They cut with clean lines too without damaging the food and with them, you can carve straight even slices one after another. The additional advantage of a cordless knife is that you can do this anywhere. Not just at the dining table but also at the picnic or barbecue.
Most people buy a cordless electric carving knife for cutting meat and then discover how handy it is for everything else too, whether that is slicing bread into even slices without leaving half a pound of crumbs behind or cutting pies and cakes without making a mess. You can use your knife for fruit and vegetables too – for example, it will tackle the tough skins of fruit such as pineapples very easily.
Perhaps there is just one thing you should be aware of before you make your choice from the small range of cordless electric knives available however. If you do not think that you will benefit greatly from being able to use your knife anywhere and are happy to stick with carving in the kitchen, you may want to think about choosing a corded knife rather than a cordless version. That is because electric caving knives with a cord are slightly more powerful than the cordless variety and they never lose power and need recharging in the middle of carving. Also the handle (which contains the power unit) is a little lighter to hold and control as it does not need to contain a battery.
It is just something to think about, if having to be near a power supply does not really bother you.
On the other hand, if you want the freedom to carve anywhere, there are just a few cordless knives on the market to choose from. Some of them such as the Sonic Blade cordless knife have been heavily advertised on TV and this may be what set you thinking about buying a knife. Try not to be swayed by a commercial, however. The manufacturers show the most spectacular results with their knives and advertise them “As Seen on TV” as if Oprah were a fan when they have only had an ad playing on some shopping channel or other. What you really want to know is whether you will get the same results as the ad at home. Make up your own mind after reading the very enlightening cordless knife reviews by genuine customers. Those best placed to let you know whether you will be happy with your choice are those who have bought the particular make of cordless electric knife you are considering.
I have included a couple of the best corded knives here so that you can read the difference in reviews. These seem to have happier customers on the whole so that may help you decide where to spend your money and how important a cordless knife is to you. As for me, I would not like to be without my electric knife as it is so useful for cutting everything – I have had it over 20 years without a hitch but I’m afraid the cordless knife reviews have not persuaded me to part with it!

The Sonic Blade 7865.00 Cordless Rechargeable Knife (to give it its full title) has mixed reviews it has to be said. Some love it, some hate it so I think you need to read for yourself and make up your own mind. You’ll find over 40 reviews HERE as well as a good price (over 70% discount) if you decide to buy after weighing up the pros and cons. |

Whereas the Sonic blade is rechargeable, this one is works entirely from batteries. Although it is cheaper than the Sonic, after you pay for the the batteries you are going to find it more expensive especially if you use it a lot. Click here and here for details and reviews of this knife from different suppliers but I can probably tell you to save your time as the reviews are very poor and on the lines of “a piece of junk” if you want to spare your time.

This is a more professional cordless knife for restaurant use and probably the one I would go for if I had to go cordless. Although it is more expensive than the others (by a long shot) the fact that you can buy additional accessories means that it is a company which stands by its product (after all no one will buy accessories if the original product is junk). There are replacement blades available and also a special filleting knife for fish. I looked long and hard for reviews on this without turning up any at all so if you buy, do let me know how you get on. Click here for details.

A best selling electric knife with over 60 reviews you can read right HERE. Low-priced and effective but this one is not cordless. I’ll say it again. Are you sure you need a cordless knife?

This Cuisinart electric knife is another model with a cord to give you an idea of the difference in reviews. This one has over 100 of them giving an average of 3 stars. You’ll find them all here. A great trusted brand if you decide to go for a normal electric knife after all.

Hi John
I see from your email address you are in the UK but I think this cordless knife is only available in the USA – sorry about that. However, I think Amazon.com will ship this item to the UK and shipping charges are not too bad – see this page then check out the details on international shipping here.

Hi,
The Tablecraft EK7 has git to be the very best rechargeable electric knife that “was” on the market. We have about 20 that we still use daily, and while the knife performs extremely well and the blades still as sharp as they were when new, the only problem we have is the batteries…. where can we get new rechargeable batteries for these fabulous knives? All the suppliers tell us that Tablecraft discontinued these products some years ago….what a shame as they are terrific… but for the many users like us…. the knife is fine still… but the batteries are past their life…. any help would be much appreciated…. we are in Australia.
Hi Vicki
I came up blank in finding replacement batteries for your Tablecraft EK7 knife. They used to be for sale but are not available any longer, which makes the knife pretty much worthless once it will no longer recharge no matter how good it used to be. Sorry about that. I am guessing you have a restaurant if you have 20 of them. Time to plan a new purchase I’m afraid for when the batteries give up altogether and leave you with no cordless knives to work with. Once you have a product you love like that it is worth buying a few spare parts for the common things that go wrong in case they get discontinued to extend the life of your equipment.
