Kitchen Appliances Made Easy

When you are equipping a kitchen for the first time or updating your kitchen later, it can be quite difficult to choose all the appliances you need and the less experience you have had in dealing with appliances in the past, the worse it is. That’s because you will often find out what you like and what you don’t only when you start to operate an appliance. You will suddenly discover that a particular feature you didn’t understand when you made your purchase makes the whole appliance a hundred times better than one that does not have it. Other times you will find the feature you paid a lot extra for, hardly gets used at all.

That is what this blog is all about – guiding you through the maze of various pieces of equipment and letting you know about the good, the bad and the downright ugly. If the toaster burns the toast, the coffee maker makes poor coffee or the rice cooker is a waste of money, we will not mince our words.

And if you have any experiences of the appliances we talk about, don’t forget to let us know in the comments and you can have your say.

I don’t know about you but I also want my appliances to look good. Some of them, like this water kettle add a lot to the appearance of your kitchen. And why not? Good design is about looking good as well as about functionality. A red Kitchenaid mixer may be just what you need to lift your kitchen out of the ordinary so think about how your appliances will appear especially if you are going to leave them on display.

Apart from the main appliances which we allĀ  just have to have (refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, oven and microwave etc) my top ten favorites at the moment (in no particular order) are :-

  • a 4-slice toaster (no idea what brand it is – but I love that it has 4 slots!)
  • a Panasonic bread maker (who knew I would make bread so much once I had one of these)
  • George Foreman grill (cutting down on the calories)
  • Prestige pressure cooker (makes great soup in just a few minutes)
  • Tower Slow Cooker (dinner is cooking even when I am out all day)
  • Vitamix blender (although it cost an arm and a leg, I was enchanted by the demo in Costco)
  • Philips Hand blender and chopper (great for small quantities and whizzing around something in a pan)
  • Blow Torch (only for making creme brulee – I like that – a lot)
  • Electric carving knife (makes short work of carving a piece of meat)
  • Toasted Sandwich and Panini maker (snacks in no time)

What are the appliances you wouldn’t be without?
